Summer League 2012
There are numerous events on the 2012 BHAA summer league with surfaces ranging from road, beach, trail and track plus distances from 1500m to 10k covered.
The season kicked-off a fortnight ago in St.Anne’s Park, Raheny with the Dublin City Council road races. Last weekend we move out of Dublin for the 10k in the K Club where a large number of runners ran the third year of this highly popular race.
On Saturday May 5th, we go to RTE for a 5 mile trot around the Donnybrook complex that’s won race of the year several times. Next up is a beach trip for the ESB 5k evening race at Sandymount on Tuesday 22nd. We end May with the 2011 race of the year in Dunboyne, this Government Services 5 miler is a fast course with an exciting track finish.
In June, we head for the spectacular surroundings of Trinity College for track races on grass. Pencil Wednesday 13th into your diary if you ever liked “Chariots of Fire”. On June 26th, we move to the very familiar Phoenix Park for a great 5k trail organised by the Irish Prison Service.
Ringsend Park is next up with the Dublin City Council 5k on Wednesday, July 11 th. Race HQ is in the Irishtown Stadium. The Bank of New York Mellon sponsor their first BHAA race in the same stadium with a 1500 metre track meet on Wednesday, July 25th.
The Zurich track race moves from Tallaght to the Morton Stadium on September 1st & this year it’s a mile plus it takes place on a Saturday. The 10k in Firhouse, it’s a Saturday race with the wonderful theme of “Finding the run of ourselves”. The summer league closes with Dublin Half Marathon in the park. Who said there were no races over summer?
