RTE 5 Mile Preview
RTE Athletic Club host there 5 Mile road race around the grounds of montrose in Donnybrook Dublin this coming Saturday. Having won “Race of the Year” on mutliple occasions the event is one of the highlights of the BHAA season.
The 5 mile distance is run over three and a half laps of the course with the start on Ailsbury Road and the finish line beside the Sports and Social centre which acts as race headquaters. Last years winner was David Campbell, followed home by Sean Hehir & Eoin Flynn while Aoife Talty, Laura Shaughnessy & Maria Dolan were the top three women.
Race HQ is at the Sports & Social club which is close to the “Fair City” set but don’t worry there will be plenty of people and signs to help you get there. There is parking for multitudes & always a great atmosphere & food for the “afters”. Registration and refreshments are upstairs with changing and showers in the room downstairs. There are always good spot prizes on offer so it’s worth hanging around for the prize giving afterwards.
With large numbers expected (410 people ran last year) we are appealing to all day runners or new members to use the Online Registration system to pre-enter before Friday 2pm it means you only have to collect a number on the day. Existing BHAA members can turn up and pay on the day. Registration will be open from 9.15 but will close at 10.30! so be warned. Again since safety is a key concern at our events we insist that no headphones are worn by runners and we cannot allow any prams in the event.
The BHAA committee have taken delivery of a new batch of chipped numbers and these will be used for the first time this weekend. We advise runners to wear these in a low position of the front of your shirt, and to avoid crossing the number with your arms as you cross the black timing mats at the end of the course.
We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday morning
