DCC 5km race report 15 July 2009
BHAA’s sole race in July was the second DCC race of the year, the much anticipated 5k from Irishtown into Ringsend Park. This race started in Irishtown Stadium, onto the paths within Ringsend Park and finished on the track at the Stadium. It was an opportunity to see the magnificent public facility that is the stadium.
Paul O’Connell attacked from the get go, burning off his competition with relative ease and finished in an impressive time of 15:37 and securing the cup. On another day, Evan Scully’s time of 15:52 would have taken the honours but not on this occasion. Also worthy of mention was Paul Cowhies 6th place finish in a time of 16:05 and first in the over 45 category. Click on "read more"….
The ladies top three included two girls in the over 40 category. The evergreen Orla Gormley was first lady home in a brisk trot & a time of 18:59 and first in the over 40 category, securing the cup. Jacqui Boyle was third lady home and 2nd in the same age group. Fiona Reid took second place in a time of 19:07.
It is great to see such high calibre runner supporting BHAA and goes to raise the bar for all runners. But of course, all abilities are well catered for and very welcome.
The race had a national & international deminsion with 12 runners from De Paul University in the US on short break in Ireland, and sampling some of life’s pleasures. We were delighted they could take in a race and they were presented with a memento from the BHAA Chairman, Charlie Cronin. We also had the pleasure of welcoming some members from our sister organisation, BHAA Cork, who took in the race whilst in Dublin.
Before the race commenced, BHAA were delighted to formally accept the yellow jeep which was generously donated by the ESB and presented by John Campion, Director of Sustainability for ESB. This has been a huge addition to race organisation, allowing race commentary by the delightful Susan Walsh. BHAA are thrilled with the jeep and would like to thank ESB for their generosity.
