BHAA Aer Lingus Report
There was a great turnout for the Aer Lingus cross-country races at ALSAA on Saturday. After a week of bad weather and generally difficult conditions, 236 runners showed up, up a whole 35% from this race last year. The weather was bitterly cold and the course was soft and wet but there was some good running. I was unable to leave the southside but it sounds to me that it was the sort of race that might be deserving of campaign honours, such as might have been earned by those who took part in the NSRT race before Christmas 2008 and the ESB Beach Race 2007.
Alan McCormack (UCD) had a comfortable win from Gearoid O’Connor (Fannin Healthcare) and Martin Quinn (Tesco).
In the women’s race, Fiona Mahon (Primary Teacher) finished ahead of Lorraine Manning (Garda) and Adrienne Jordan (Primary Teacher).
I was told that the catering was great, with loads of everything afterwards. Well done and thanks to Gerry Martin, Eugene Foley and colleagues for their efforts. I notice also that they had international guests from KLM too.
The next race will be the Garda/St. Raphael’s Credit Union cross-country race at the Phoenix Park on Saturday 21 February 2009 at 11.30am. Registration will be at the Garda Boat Club at Islandbridge. You will need to allow plenty of time to get from registration to the race start area. More details later.
Bye for now.
