Dublin City Council 5k Road Race Preview
5K race 16th July @ 7:30 p.m
This is really a downtown 5K road race in D4. It’s unique in that it starts and finishes on the tartan track of the City Council’s excellent Irishtown Stadium and includes 3 laps of Ringsend Park. It is a fast flat course and has attractions for top end runners, serious runners and fun runners. All grades and standards are welcome. There are top class dressing rooms and showers.
The race is open to all standards and has been characterised by surprise guest runners, tourists either as individuals or a group. In the past a visiting American university team ran and this year the Revenue Commissioners plan to field new entrants after a recruitment campaign of “Fit for Life” and putting them though a fitness regime under the tutelage of the indomitable Susan Walsh.
Afterwards there will be refreshments, a quiz with prizes of DCC services (golf, sport vouchers to DCC facilities, free parking on street and in DCC car parks) and, the presentation of race prizes.
It is one of the few opportunities for experienced road runners and beginners to sample the spring of a tartan track in a spirit of sport and craic.
